Sewer Camera Inspection
A sewer camera inspection exceeds the TREC Standards of Practice, while maintaining the non-invasive nature of the inspection. It involves removing a readily accessible “panel” (the drain cleanout cap) much like removing an electrical or HVAC panel cover. I then utilize an extension camera to view the interior conditions of the main sewer lines. A sewer camera inspection, while limited in nature, provides the client with additional information during the option period concerning the general condition of main drain lateral lines and whether or not further investigation is warranted.
What Is A Sewer Camera Inspection?
· The sewer camera inspection that I preform consists of sending a camera down the main sewer lines of the residence starting at the clean-out. The camera inspection goes from the clean-out to the lines below the house and then from the clean-out back to the street to the main city sewer drop. For those homes that have a private sewer or septic system, the camera inspection will go to the tank of the septic system.
·This inspection does not check the individual branch lines. It only inspects the main sewer line
·During the sewer camera inspection, I am looking for any cracks or breaks in the line and any debris or clogs that might exist in the line.
·After the camera inspection is complete, a written report with comments and photos will be provided to the client. A video of the inspection will also be available separately upon request.
Common Defects-Main Sewer Lateral Line
- Tree Roots In Line- Root infiltration can cause damage to lines quickly.
- Foreign Object or Blockage In Lines-Grease or some other object is restricting proper water flow.
- Broken, Collapsed, Cracked or Misaligned Pipes.-Caused by shifting soil or frozen ground.
- Bellied Pipe- A sunken line or a line with improper slope that can lead to standing water or converged waste in the pipe.
- Pipe Corrosion or Deterioration- Older drain pipes risk rust especially in cast iron pipes. Other risks include scaling that can lead to leaks or collapse
- Leaking Joint- Allows sewage to escape and create adverse and/or unsanitary conditions.
PLEASE NOTE: THE SEWER CAMERA INSPECTION CANNOT DETECT LEAKS. IT MAY SHOW CONDITIONS FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE PIPE THAT MAY INDICATE A LEAK AND IT MAYBE RECOMMENDED THE CLIENT CONSULT WITH A LICENSED PLUMBER.
